(A collection of Doug Diehl); These units were built and purchased by the Philadelphia Transportation Company in the 1940s. When the order was completed there were over 1000 of these units running on the streets within Philadelphia. Most of these units seved the area for over 40 years. In the 1950s-1960s, most of these lines were converted over to buses leaving only merely a few streetcar routes left in the city.
